Book Review: ARKANE 4, 5 & 6 by @JFPennAuthor #thriller #bookreview

I very much enjoy Joanna’s writing — even if I read this series out of order!

About the Book

A relic, stolen from the heart of an ancient city.
An echo of nationalist violence not seen since the dark days of the Second World War.

Budapest, Hungary. When a priest is murdered at the Basilica of St Stephen and the Holy Right relic is stolen, the ultra-nationalist Eröszak party calls for retribution and anti-Semitic violence erupts in the city.

Dr Morgan Sierra, psychologist and ARKANE agent, finds herself trapped inside the synagogue with Zoltan Fischer, a Hungarian Jewish security advisor. As the terrorism escalates, Morgan and Zoltan must race against time to find the Holy Right and expose the conspiracy, before blood is spilled again on the streets of Budapest.

One Day In Budapest is a chilling view of a possible future as Eastern Europe embraces right-wing nationalism. A conspiracy thriller for fans of Daniel Silva, where religion and politics intersect.

My Review

Morgan saves the city of Budapest from serious violence as she rushes about with Zoltan, a new acquaintance, to figure out who had committed a brutal murder and stolen a national religious symbol that ignited anti-Semitic feelings early on the morning Morgan arrives.

Loads of action, sight-seeing, violence, history, and a hint of the occult.

A quick, fun read.

Trigger warning: history of Jews and Nazis, violence, rape.

About the Book

A ritual murder on a remote island under the shifting skies of the aurora borealis.
A staff of power that can summon Ragnarok, the Viking apocalypse.

When Neo-Viking terrorists invade the British Museum in London to reclaim the staff of Skara Brae, ARKANE agent Dr. Morgan Sierra is trapped in the building along with hostages under mortal threat.

As the slaughter begins, Morgan works alongside psychic Blake Daniel to discern the past of the staff, dating back to islands invaded by the Vikings generations ago.

Can Morgan and Blake uncover the truth before Ragnarok is unleashed, consuming all in its wake?

Day of the Vikings is a fast-paced, action adventure thriller set in the British Museum, the British Library and the islands of Orkney, Lindisfarne and Iona.

Set in the present day, it resonates with the history and myth of the Vikings. If you love an action-packed thriller, download a sample or buy Day of the Vikings now.

Day of the Vikings features Dr. Morgan Sierra from the ARKANE thrillers, and Blake Daniel from the London Mysteries, but it is also a stand-alone novella that can be read and enjoyed separately.

My Review

Brilliant, vivid, prologue.

Museums, Vikings, explosions and mystical artefacts – what’s not to love?

“She itched to hit something, craving the rush that only violence could soothe.” Isn’t Morgan awesome?

The language – especially the use of Old Norse and Latin – enriches the story’s world.

An action-packed adventure through the British Museum and Library – not to mention the Neo-Vikings and their Valkyrie causing chaos everywhere.

A quick read (or perhaps I just read really fast!) that won’t disappoint.

About the Book

An ancient manuscript that leads to the Gates of Hell. A woman’s revenge for the death of her father.

When the last of the Remnant is murdered at the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, ARKANE agent Dr Morgan Sierra is drawn into the hunt for a supernatural Key. She’s joined by agent Jake Timber, who must face his own fears as they decipher clues left behind by Kabbalist scholars.

From ancient sites in Spain, to Israel and the Czech Republic, Morgan and Jake must follow the trail to the Key, while evading Adam Kadmon, a man consumed with a lust for dark power.

As the planets align, Morgan and Jake race against time to find the Key and destroy it before the Devourers and the Polluted of God emerge from the Gates of Hell to ravage the earth.

My Review

An ancient manuscript, diving into the Dead Sea, loads of sightseeing and history – and stuff blowing up! So much fun to read.

Morgan learns the truth about her father’s death and a Kabbalist group called the Remnant who protects the world from demons. She and Jake have to stop a fanatic from finding the Key and opening the Gates of Hell.

I liked that Morgan is faced with things from her past, learning the truth about it and overcoming her own fears. I also liked the use of Kabballah mysticism – especially the climax.

Another great adventure where Morgan saves the world from the occult.
