A to Z Challenge

There’s Only One C… #AtoZChallenge #IWSG

C is for Cher

Learn more about the A-Z Challenge here.

As I mentioned in my theme-reveal post, this month will be all about music and how it inspires my writing.

Today I’m also participating in the Insecure Writer’s Support Group monthly blog hop.

You can learn more here.

For “C”, I decided to only look at one iconic star: Cher.

I grew up with her music on the radio. She was a household name. But I truly took interest in her music when “Believe” came out. The things I know about her can sound a bit stalker-y, so we’ll leave it at: I’m a fan.

As an artist (yes, writers are artists), what I appreciate about her is her tenacity, that she goes for what she wants without apology, and that she was able to create a successful career out of what she loves doing. She did that through her entire career – and that great woman is now in her seventies. Imagine having a long lasting career like that… You can learn more about her by clicking the link tied to her name above and by reading this article in “Rolling Stone“.

Favourite album: “Believe”. Favourite song: “Believe”.

Word of the day: cabaret.

According to Collins English dictionary: cabaret n 1 a floor show of dancing, singing, or other light entertainment at a nightclub or restaurant 2 chiefly US a nightclub or restaurant providing such entertainment

Have you seen Cher in the movie “Burlesque”? Now that’s great cabaret. See the video clip below for a taste.

How does this tie in to the IWSG this month? Obviously we all want mega success like Cher. And how will we do it?

Exactly.

Do you like Cher? Do you have a favourite music group/artist that starts with a “C”?

  1. My favourite Cher song is believe, although If I Could Turn Back Time has a place in my heart, just because it brings back such feelings of nostalgia :). A band I really loved beginning with C were Cinema Bizarre, they were a German band who took after the Visual Kei movement from Japan. Unfortunately they broke up 🙁 – they had a decent fandom on LJ for a while.

  2. I’ve never really been a big fan of Cher, but I do like a few of her songs. Believe is obviously too good to not love! And I did really like her in Burlesque. Sometimes I don’t like when singers try to transition into actors but I’ve always loved Cher in anything that I’ve seen her in.

  3. What a fabulous video! Let’s see–C Bands…The Cars were popular when I was a youngling. I always found Ric Ocasek appealing in his gawky, brooding way. Happy writing in April, Ronel!

  4. Hi Ronel! I love Cher, so much to admire about her career and tenacity. I perused my playlists for a band that begins with ‘C’ and (apart from Cher/Believe) the only other artist is Johnny Cash. It’s not like I’m a complete throwback. Sia’s in there too. 🙂
I don’t have time for the A-to-Z this year, but I’ll enjoy following your April.

  5. I love Cher. My favorite Just like Jessie James and the Shoop Shoop Song (It’s in his Kiss) from the movie Mermaids. Great songs for the open road in a convertible with the top down. Yup, been there, did that, still, love to do that. Happy IWSG!

  6. I love Cher. She’s a great actress and singer. I loved her in Mermaids, the Mask, Moonstruck, she’s just amazing. The Cars is a great older band.

  7. I loved Cher in the movie Mermaids! I find her quite adorable and love her voice. My favorite songs by Cher are: The Shoop Shoop song, Believe (of course!), Walking in Memphis, and Dead Ringer for love with Meatloaf. I miss those MTV days in the 90s — especially the MTV Classics show when they seemed to play all my favorite songs. I love 80s music.

Thank you for connecting, Ronel! 🧡 And for visiting my blog!

  8. I love Cher to all the way from her days with Sonny with Bang Bang through to the end of her career. I actually saw a show of her once at Las Vegas. She changed clothes a lot during the show which I thought was fine but I would rather have heard her sing more songs. She was amazing.
