Q is for Quiet

I’m doing folklore and book review posts to reach and please a larger audience. Previous years have shown select interest in both and to minimise blogging throughout the year, I’m focusing my efforts on April.
Focusing on an A to Z of my TBR (to be read) list, each letter will have books starting with that letter on my list, a book I’ve read and reviewed (with the review!) and one of my books matching the letter with a link about more info about the book (I’ve published some new books, so take a look).
I chose the books this year quite randomly from my Goodreads Want to Read page. Some are quite creatively added to letters.
I know there were suggestions in last year’s Reflection post that I skip my TBR and just get on with the review, but I like knowing what I have left to read for each letter (and how far I’ve come with all the reading challenges I’ve done) so things are staying the same. Scroll down to the reviews if you’re not interested in what my TBR still contains. FYI, you might encounter issues with commenting if you don’t tick all the boxes marked as mandatory (especially the privacy one).
Let the fun begin!
If you’d rather check out my folklore post for today, go here.

My TBR
About the Book I’ve Read
Quiet in Her Bones by Nalini Singh
In this gripping thriller set in New Zealand, New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh takes you into the twisted world of an exclusive cul-de-sac located on the edge of a sprawling forest.
My mother vanished ten years ago.
So did a quarter of a million dollars in cash.
Thief. Bitch. Criminal.
Now, she’s back.
Her bones clothed in scarlet silk.
When socialite Nina Rai disappeared without a trace, everyone wrote it off as another trophy wife tired of her wealthy husband. But now her bones have turned up in the shadowed green of the forest that surrounds her elite neighborhood, a haven of privilege and secrets that’s housed the same influential families for decades.
The rich live here, along with those whose job it is to make their lives easier. And somebody knows what happened to Nina one rainy night ten years ago. Her son Aarav heard a chilling scream that night, and he’s determined to uncover the ugly truth that lives beneath the moneyed elegance…but no one is ready for the murderous secrets about to crawl out of the dark.
Even the dead aren’t allowed to break the rules in this cul-de-sac.
Check it out on Goodreads.
My Review
An unreliable narrator with memories coming and going because of a head injury, combined with some intriguing therapy transcripts and a host of suspects makes this a book not easily set aside.
The forest is my favourite thing about the story, the way it helped and hindered, sheltered and devoured. Amazing.
The dog being poisoned was a trigger for me, but as one never actually meets it or sees the body, only hears about the event, I was able to move past it.
Using the Lord’s name in vain was unnecessary and uncool.
The police and doctors not revealing what they know, added to the narrator’s paranoia and the suspense of the story.
So many crimes in such a quiet cul de sac…
An intriguing read that will keep you guessing until the great twist at the end.

My Book
Once and Future Queen

I hope you enjoyed this. For more books I’ve read and reviewed, check out either my Pinterest board about reviews or my Goodreads profile. Alternatively, you can check out my reviews on BookBub. Have you read any of the books? Loved or hated any of them?
You can now support my time in producing book review posts (buying books, reading, writing reviews and everything else involved) by buying me a coffee. This can be a once-off thing, or you can buy me coffee again in the future at your discretion.
*FYI, my reviews are my honest opinion and if something bothers me, I tell it straight. How else will anything change? My opinions are based on being a voracious reader and book buyer, not an attack on the author.*

Hopefully you’re enjoying the A to Z Challenge as much as we are this year.

Thanks, B. Always fun to look at my TBR and wonder which book to read next.
You have so many books listed…….I feel so guilty of the unread books on my shelves…….that I want to get to!! ZD
That’s why I do my TBR — so I can get around to reading those books!
