I was on the author’s newsletter because I opted in when an anthology was offered featuring various authors, and jumped at the opportunity to read and review this book. I’ve since opted out for reasons shown in the review below.
About the Book
The Order of the Dragon is a prestigious organisation that deals with all the supernatural creatures in Europe. When member Lucien De Winter is tasked with a case that involves demonic activity at a rich, spoiled brats’ academy, he encounters Avery and her electric personality. Avery finds this man intriguing. His magnetic energy pulls her into the midst of danger and supernatural creatures. When Lucien gets turned into a vampire against his will, the Order sends its knights to hunt him down. While Avery doesn’t know what her future holds for her, she knows that she needs to help him and keep him alive, whatever it takes. To save his life, and Avery’s, Lucien embarks on a journey across Europe to find the only man who can help him take down the organisation. One Vlad Dracula.

My Review
Insta-love. Loads of cursing. Info-dumps. No getting to know the characters, just jumping into one situation after the other for the sake of the plot. Not enough time spent in Avery’s head to see how she feels about Lucien – and his thoughts are all about her being a hot brat. Typos. Head hopping in scenes. Inconsistencies, e.g. Vlad is the oldest and first vampire at five hundred, but first vampire met in the book is a thousand years older than other old vampire met in book.
At least the Order of the Dragon and the supernatural world is interesting enough to finish the book. No resolution, though. (There is this whole thing about demons at the Academy that Lucien is supposed to solve, but then he goes off on something else and we don’t even know how his supposed great love is doing.)
Has a lot of stuff that the market of Academy books is looking for, but could do with a better editing job for reasons stated above. If not for the short length of the book and already being half-through, I would have DNFed.
*I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest opinion.

What do you think of the book? Do you like reading about vampires? Have you read anything by the author?

Thanks for a good, honest review! Can save others the time and energy for even starting 😀
Thanks. When I read other reviews, I feel like we didn’t read the same book…
I don’t mind insta-love stories, but all the rest is very unfortunate. The story sounded promising enough. *sigh* Thank you for sharing your honest review with us, Ronel. I believe it’s always important to be honest in reviews.
I agree: honesty is the best policy 🙂
