A to Z Challenge

Only One That Fits the Q #AtoZChallenge

Q is for Queen

As I mentioned in my theme-reveal post, this month will be all about music and how it inspires my writing.

If you haven’t heard of Queen, you’ve probably never turned on the radio or watched a movie. The “Highlander” movies are filled with Queen songs (“It’s a Kind of Magic”, “Who Wants to Live Forever”, etc.), “We Are the Champions” is a favourite at sporting events (and in “Glee” when they finally win) – it was also a taunting song in “You Again”. “I Want to Break Free” was sung by Anne Hathaway in “Ella Enchanted”. I’m sure you can name more movies and TV shows where their songs were used.

A lot of great artists have sung with the band. Elton John (The Show Must Go On) and Adam Lambert (check out these Google results for live concerts!) come to mind.

Their songs are also a favourite at drunken New Year’s Eve parties… Or maybe I’m the only one who has attended one where everyone tried to sing “Bohemian Rhapsody” at the same time…?

Hate them or love them, they have had a big influence on our culture. I have them on my drafting playlists.

Favourite album: I don’t have one, I love them all. Favourite song: “Bohemian Rhapsody

Word of the day: quartet

According to Collins English dictionary: quartet or quartette n a group of four singers or instrumentalists or a piece of music composed for such a group

Do you like Queen? Do you have a favourite music group/artist that starts with a “Q”?

  1. As you noted when you visited my blog, I went with Queen as well. They have to be among my favourite bands with many great hits. Freddie was unique, and few singers have ever sung those hits like him. I remember the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness where many tried but few succeeded – George Michael, Zucchero and Annie Lennox stand out in my memory.

  2. You’re going classic here, eh? 😉
The Queen are really a very particular band, and the more time passes, the more it is obvious how different they were.
