W is for Within Temptation

As I mentioned in my theme-reveal post, this month will be all about music and how it inspires my writing.

Today’s band is classified as Symphonic Gothic Metal. Don’t let that put you off: one of their songs was featured in “Vampire Diaries” (remember when Elena and Damon danced for the first time in season one? Don’t worry, it’s the music video below.)

I first heard of Within Temptation when their song “All I Need” was played in Vampire Diaries. Since then, I’ve added their music to my library and various playlists. Some of them are on the “writing romance” playlist, some on “battle” playlists and some of their music is for drafting, rewriting and editing. Their music is quite versatile. I use their album “The Q-Music Sessions” as background music while doing admin.

Favourite album: “The Heart of Everything” Favourite song: “All I Need

Word of the day: wah-wah

According to Collins English dictionary: wah-wah n1 the sound made by a trumpet, cornet, etc. when the bell is alternately covered and uncovered: much used in jazz 2 an electronic attachment for an electric guitar, etc., that simulates this effect

Do you like Within Temptation? Do you have a favourite music group/artist that starts with a “W”?

  1. I usually can’t write to music because I get caught up in the music and my focus shifts and I start singing along. I’ve never watched The Vampire Diaries or heard of that song, but I watched the clip. It’s a lovely piece. Thanks for introducing me to it.

  2. It’s really interesting to see how you use music in your writing, with different styles and songs for different genres of writing or parts of the process. I know I’m in the minority on this, but I can’t stand listening to music as background while I’m trying to concentrate on anything else that requires thought. I like it really quiet when I write!

  3. Within Temptation is one of the greatest groups that I listen to when I write. You anticipated my Sunday post (already written and scheduled). Great minds run in the same circuit. 🙂

  4. Thanks for the visit to my A-Z challenge and the Twitter shout out – much appreciated.
I didn’t think I’d like Symphonic Gothic Metal music but I watched the video and I do it is very dramatic!
Congrats so far on your A-Z success!

  5. I am so mad they took Vampire Diaries off of Netflix and yes I love the song. I loved that series but I would have enjoyed more time to see it over and over again. I watched The Originals with a vengeance and it did not disappoint. I am also a fan of the Legacies with Hope Mikaelson except the twins are ruining it for me.

  6. Hi Ronel.
Popping in from the A to Z challenge to say thanks for the visit and comment.
I too haven’t seen the Vampire Diaries but I did watch your clip and found it interesting and enjoyable.
Their quote about “No light in the darkness is too small to see, …….”,
reminds me of something that happened when living at Klein Melkbos Plaas. I lit a candle and put it in my kitchen window while enduring load shedding. across the parking area there was this strange light and I couldn’t work out where it was coming from. The following morning I looked out and there was a truck parked where I had seen the light, about 100 meters or so from my house, with reflective safety tape along the bottom of the load bed.
One candle, alone in the window many meters away, was enough to light up the area . Very impressive and thought provoking.
    Blessings from Johannesburg, Geoff.

  7. I like your little word of the day and the explanation of today, I’m trying to figure out how it would sound.
I usually write with music in the background, but not genre specific, I have a l playlist of favourites that I update every now and then.
